Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, is when a person sweats more than the body naturally needs to. The excessive sweating is not controlled by the person and they are powerless to keep it from occurring.
The most common type of hyperhidrosis is in the hands, also known as sweaty hands or sweaty palms. Other areas of excessive sweating may occur in the face, armpits and feet.
The cause of hyperhidrosis is an overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. Hyperhidrosis has two categories: the first primary hyperhidrosis is the type of excessive sweating that cannot be traced to a specific cause.
Secondary hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that is usually the outcome of one or more disorders from which the person is suffering. This can be due to menopause, diabetes, obesity and other similar disorders.
Many people, however, have primary hyperhidrosis… so the true cause of excessive sweating is unknown. Nonetheless, unknown causes does not mean that there are no treatments for hyperhidrosis.
